All Age Service at Christ Church Pennington- Sunday 3rd November 2019

Celebrating 150 Years, Harvest and remembering a very special person.

On Sunday 6th October we held a very special service at Church to celebrate 150th Years of our school, our Harvest festival and we also planted a tree in the Garden of Remembrance for Mrs Larner, one of our Teaching Assistants who recently passed away after a short illness. We led the service alongside Rev Saunders and Wiremu which included lots of Harvest songs and conker prayers.  It was lovely to see so many children and parents attend this event and come together not only as a school, but as part of our wider school community.

Ethos Group

Are you aware of the huge impact that the school Ethos Group are having at church?

Each month at our all-age family service members of the Ethos Group come and help. They lead creative prayers, give notices – in the style of a news broadcast, they welcome people, lead action songs, and help us get the message of God’s love across even more effectively! So, a huge THANK YOU as they are making a big difference to these services – as a result of their participation we’re seeing new growth with more children encouraged to enjoy church and being joined by their families to support them.  After each service, many families stay on to enjoy a family lunch together with fun and games for all ages!

Rev Alan Saunders

Christ Church Pennington

All Age Service at Christ Church Pennington

On Sunday 7th July, we took part in the 'All Age Family Service' at Church. The service focused on 'The gifts that God has given us', and how we need to make sure that we use them wisely.  We helped to retell the 'Parable of the Talents' to help people to understand this message. Rev Saunders explained that whilst using these gifts it is important to 1. Not get distracted 2.Not under-achieve and 3. Don't push too far! The service also celebrated the amazing work that the PAIS team have done over the last year and at the end we said goodbye to them as they moved onto the next chapter in their christian journey.

Wisdom: WWJD- What would Jesus Do?- Tuesday 4th June

This half term in our worship time we are focussing on the value of Wisdom and the abbreviation 'WWJD- What would Jesus do?' During this morning's worship the children were all given a wristband by the Ethos Group containing this abbreviation and also our 4 core Christian Values.  This is something that we are encouraging the children to wear as part of their uniform each day, to help to remind them of the foundations that they need to build their lives on.

All Age Service at Christ Church Pennington

On Sunday 5th May, we took part in the 'All Age Family Service' at Church. The service focused on the bible story 'Joseph', the ups and downs he had in his life and the different emotions that these brought with them. We looked at how we also have many ups and downs in our lives and the different emotions that we also experience, but God will always be with us to help us through them. We used the theme of emojis throughout the service and even wrote our themed prayers on them.

All Age Family Service at Christ Church Pennington

On Sunday 31st March, we took part in the 'All Age Family Service' at Church to celebrate Mother's Day and to say thank you to all the female carers who look after us. The service focused on the bible story 'The Prodigal Son', which Reece very bravely read to the congregation. It was a very special family service for all who attended and we thoroughly enjoyed being part of it.

Lent

Once again we have decided to take part in the ‘40 Acts’. The idea behind this is that, during each day in Lent, the children perform an act of kindness. Each day the Ethos group have been responsible for displaying the daily act of kindness on the Ethos board in the hall and encouraging everyone to be extra kind, just like God would want us to.

All Age Family Service at Christ Church Pennington

On Sunday 3rd March, we took part in the 'All Age Family Service' at Church. The service linked with Shrove Tuesday and Lent and had the theme "Mission Impossible'.  During the service we explained that when Jesus was sent down to earth, he had a very difficult mission to complete and during the time of Lent (40 days and nights), he was repeatedly tempted by the devil. We understand that in our own lives we can face lots of temptation, but God will always be there to guide us.

All Age Family Service at Christ Church Pennington

On Sunday 3rd February, we took part in the 'All Age Family Service' at Church. We had been working hard with Wiremu the school chaplain and the Pais team for a number of weeks prior to the service, to prepare something that would share our message that "GOD IS LOVE.' This was a new challenge for us and some of us were extremely nervous facing a very different audience to our usual school one, but everyone really enjoyed themselves and can't wait to be part of the next one.

Christmas Stocking Competition 2018

This year we decided to organise a Christmas stocking competition with a difference.  As a group we decided that most christmas stockings are decorated with things that don't really represent the true meaning of Christmas, so our competition was to design one which did. Everybody got a chance of making a stocking and Mr Southern picked a winner from each class. They were all amazing and it was an extremely tough decision. Well done to everyone who participated.

Congratulations to this years winners:

Children in Need- Friday 16th November 2018

After discovering that the BBC One's Team Rickshaw would be riding past our school on their way to Media City in Manchester for Children in Need, the Ethos Team decided that it would be a great idea to make banners and signs offering messages of support to help them as they completed the last leg of their challenge. During our Ethos meeting we discussed each of the children that were riding the bike and the difficult challenges that they had overcome in life. We thought carefully about what kind of messages we needed to put on our signs and how it would make them feel when they saw them.

New Ethos Group for 2018

  • Create banners and signs of support for 'The BBC One Show's Team Rickshaw' who will be riding past our school on Children in Need Day.
  • Be part of creating the school's new Mission and Vision statement.
  • Meet every Wednesday to Make Christmas decorations to sell at our Christmas Fayre.
  • Christmas Stocking Competition
  • Prepare a worship for our Christmas Carol Concert.

Spring Term 2018

Trust Worship

In February the Ethos Group planned a worship on Trust. During the worship we asked the children to volunteer to come out to the front and they had to close their eyes and do something trust related. There was a table and on it were some bowls of food, some foods were good, but unfortunately there were also some bad foods. We asked “Do you trust Hannah, Leah and Dean to give you a nice food?” It was very funny watching them and their faces. Don’t forget the worship was about trusting others and knowing that God is with you. Afterwards we gave examples, such as ‘we trust our teachers to care for us during learning times.

Autumn Term 2017

Key Stage 2 Christmas Carol Service

During the Christmas Carol Service the Ethos team did a presentation about ‘The True Meaning of Christmas.’  We all had different letters that we put together that spelt words related to Christmas. Ethos Conference

At the end of June 2017, three Year 6’s and three Year 5’s attended an Ethos Conference on Peace at Bishop Bridgeman Primary School in Bolton. There were many different RE activities for them to explore from the ‘Prayer Tree House’ to the ‘Painting a quote bubble.’ The children came back to school extremely enthusiastic about the things that they had seen and shortly after this visit we set up our very first school Ethos Group for 2017/18.
